So, there is this famous book I read.

Think And Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill

It's a lot about success, and it talks about the power of your mind to achieve incredible stuff. It's kind of a set the steps to achieving riches.

Even though the book was written in 1937, there are still some golden nuggets if you know how to look for them.

For example, at the end of the book, the author talks about "alibis" that people use to explain their lack of achievement.

He says that people who do not succeed have one trait in common. They all know the reasons for failure and have these alibis to comfort themselves.

But alibis cannot be used in the real world. The world only cares about one thing: have you really achieved success?

The truth is that I have personally used many of these alibis in the past to explain my failures. Or as a reason to avoid hard work…

Anyways, among the alibis that people use, I found that the following ones are the most commonly voiced. Check it out and let me know if you can catch yourself using any of the reasons listed.

  • If I didn't have a wife and family…
  • If I had money…
  • If only I had time…
  • If times were better…
  • If other people understood me…
  • If conditions around me were different…
  • If I had been given a chance…
  • If I were only younger…
  • If I had been born rich…
  • If I had the talent that some people have…
  • If I could meet "the right people"…
  • If I only had somebody to help me…
  • If I lived in a big city… (Or another country in my case…)
  • If I lived in a different neighbourhood…
  • If I could marry the right person…
  • If luck were not against me…

He talks about many more (50 in total), but in my opinion, these are the most common here and now.

Have you seen yourself using any of them? If not, now that you know what the alibis are, you’ll be able to see them more easily.

To your success,

Umar "no-longer-using-alibis" Bahadoor
